Why not simply make recovery DVDs and then use that partitioned part of the hard drive for additional storage? Usually when the PC won't start up anyway, you can't access any part of the hard drive.

Sounds like a viable idea to me...
Basically, I wanted to know if there was anything wrong with what I suggested...? I realize an external drive is nice but of the 4 PCs we have in our house only one has the hard drive filling up.
