want to replace hard drive-have recovery disks-can I put new HD in and use recovery disks for a functioning OS

-will it be fully functional XP or do I somehow have to copy the old drive on to the new one before use of the recovery cd's?

-alredy backed up my personal files

-this is for a laptop
